Changing patterns
Thursday, 02 October 2008
If I were to ask you to tell me to list the things that are important when trying to make a relationship work, I`ve no doubt that communication and compromise would come fairly high in your list. So why when we are single and we`re looking for a partner are we so unwilling to compromise?

A simple example of this occurs to me. If you are a guy looking to meet a girl, have you tried going to hang out in a local beauty spa to see whom you might meet there, or a local dance studio? Ladies, have you considered going to the local sports club on a Friday after work to see who might be there. Generally, we like our routines and our friend`s and would rather not have to change our lifestyle, even if temporarily, in order to meet new people.

This is a notion for some thought. If we want to meet people of the opposite sex, I think we do have to compromise in some way. I think you would have to move out of your comfort zone and into a new environment for the sake of meeting different people. A few simple examples, ladies go and watch rugby on a Saturday afternoon even if you hate the game. Guys, join a dance studio. Ladies, go to the car wash on a Sunday morning.

If all of this sounds daft or too much like hard work, you can always attend a SMARTdate event. This too, will likely take you out of your comfort zone, hopefully with some good results.

1 That does sound a bit too extreme. Speed dating is a better option!

3 SmartDate is best answer. Everybody is there and rest lies with you.

4 I think you`ve made a good point...but watching a rugby game sounds like inhumane torture. It`s true that we need to conquer ourselves before attempting to have a successful relationship though.

5 I have tried a few of these approaches, and when I visted the spa, the ladies thought I was gay :-) It is such an atypical thing for a male to do, at least according to society`s standards. But luckily I am not bothered by what society says. I simply asked the ladies for a full treatment (excluding the wax, of course!)

6 I agree with the changing patterns, getting out of your safety zone, BUT I think for a non-rugby watcher to go and watch rugby, you are perpetuating the deceit that we are all trying to get away from, surely? So now you`ve got yourself a "rugger bugger", so now every sports channel is "locked-in" on the TV, so now every weekend it`s rugby matches... is THIS what you want? Surely to "stretch" a bit would be to do something within your scope of interest, just more. EG. So you like theatre - so join a theatre group AND go to theatre. So you like hiking, Join a birding group etc I have found that by trying to "take on" an interest I lost myself, despite my sincerity in my attempts. Besides, I think women are more apt to accommodate then men... what you think?

7 Ya - come to think of it the SPA is not a bad idea.... I was tempted 2once, the place was packed with beauty Queens - Although a thought next time I think i`d go for the Full treatment as well, Excluding the WAX...lol!!
